Ratnagiri Alphonso Aam Ras: Pure Unsweetened Mango Pulp
Ratnagiri Alphonso Aam Ras is an unsweetened, pure mango pulp that's redolent with memories of annual holidays. Stretch the fleeting mango season beyond the summer with Aazol's fresh hapus aam ras. Firm, saffron-hued and sweet, this pure unsweetened mango pulp can be used in sherbet, blended with milk or yoghurt for a smoothie, or churned into aamrakhand (mango shrikhand). We like to scoop it up with hot puris just like Maharashtrians do at Gudi Padwa lunch.
Provenance
India’s association with the mango is millions of years old. It finds a mention in Vedic literature, and can be traced to Burma and Bangladesh. When the Portuguese encountered the maanga in Kerala, they carried it to the world as mango. As did Buddhist monks, who popularised the fruit in Southeast Asia. The Ratnagiri Alphonso has a GI tag because its unique flavour and potent aroma is found nowhere else. Thus, it gains from the rich, low-moisture laterite soil, Arabian sea breeze and hilly conditions of the group of Konkan villages it calls home.
About The Seller
Swad Canning was founded in the early 2000s in Ratnagiri by Salil Damle, who runs the enterprise along with his wife and son. Recognising the growing demand for quality mango pulp, the family established a pulping unit focused on producing authentic Alphonso mango pulp with consistent quality. Using mangoes from their family-owned orchards and other local farms following good agricultural practices, Swad Canning blends deep local knowledge with a strong focus on quality. Beyond production, the enterprise supports the local ecosystem by creating employment opportunities for youth and promoting better orchard management and professional practices. Through knowledge sharing and support to fellow growers, Swad Canning is helping strengthen a more sustainable and successful mango economy in the Konkan region.
