Provenance
Jaggery is one of the oldest sweeteners in the world, used in India since the Vedic age. It is an unrefined natural sugar produced from slow cooking sugarcane juice without the addition of chemicals. Mentioned in the Charaka Samhita, the oldest and most authentic Ayurveda text, jaggery has been recommended by Ayurvedic medicine for over 3,000 years. It is nutritionally comparable to honey and contains vital minerals and vitamins absent in refined sugar. Today it forms the core of many traditional Indian sweets ranging from puran poli to ladoo, halwa to gajak.
About The Seller
Vedika Foods was founded by Devdas Newase, a committed farmer from rural Maharashtra who, along with a group of like-minded villagers, was deeply inspired by the principles of natural farming advocated by Subhash Palekar ji. Witnessing the declining health of their soil and water, and the financial stress faced by farmers in the region, Devdas and his peers felt a strong need to shift towards a more sustainable, chemical-free way of farming. What began as a small collective effort soon grew into a community movement. The team actively identified and brought together other farmers already practicing natural farming, creating a network rooted in shared learning, traditional wisdom and ecological responsibility.Vedika Foods focuses on producing high-quality, genuinely natural food products that meet everyday consumer needs while ensuring fair income for farmers. Every product reflects their commitment to soil health, purity, sustainability and strengthening rural livelihoods. With a vision to nourish both people and the planet, Vedika Foods continues to grow as a model of how collective action and natural farming can transform agricultural communities.
